Here at Maidstone Aquatics, we have over 130 tanks bursting with lots of tropical fish including - Tetras, Barbs, Livebearers, Corydoras, L-number plecos and many more. We stock a great selection of both Malawi & American Cichlids which is ever changing. Oddball fish are often available too.

Livebearer's
L-number plecos
Lots of Livebearer's in stock. We have Mollies, Platy's, guppy's and swordtails. Plenty of unusual colours usually available. Livebearer's make great starter fish due to their hardiness and peaceful nature. You may be lucky enough to breed these fish. They have live young which the female will only release when they are ready to swim on their own. They can have up to 80 fry at any one time
We try and stock a good selection of L-number Plecos when in season. Including L200 green phantom, L18/81 gold nugget, L204 flash peckoltia, L190 royal Pleco, and many more. Most Plecos make great algae eaters and they can help to reduce the levels in a tank. However we always recommend supplementing their diet with algae wafers and cucumber slices.
Barbs
Cichlids
Tanks & Accessories
Malawi Cichlid's are a favourite here at the shop. We always have a good varied selection of both Mbuna and Haps. Our variety is always changing and we can order many species if you cant find what you're after. We also keep lots of American cichlids including - Jack Dempsey's, Oscars, Severums and Firemouths. Cichlids can be a little more demanding, some of them being very territorial or aggressive. If you are unsure about any of our cichlids we are here to advise you.
Barbs can make great community fish, some however like the favourite "Tiger Barb" can be fin nippers and should not be housed with anything delicate like Guppys or Siamese fighters. We keep an ever changing selection including - Tiger barbs, Pentazona barbs, Chequer barbs, Ruby barbs, Striped barbs & Rosy barbs. We will try our best to order other species if you are after something specific.
Tetras
Neon's, Cardinal's, Rummy-Nose and lots more usually in stock. Tetras make great community fish, lots of them are very peaceful and mix well with other fishes. Tetras are very colourful and love to shoal in a group, you will see that we sell many of them in lots of 5 or more. Tetras love to eat flakes or granules & of course they never seem to turn down an offering of bloodworm.
Juwel tanks are a big feature here at the shop and many of them have free cabinets, plus we stock everything you'll need to kit our your Juwel tank and keep it well maintained for years to come. Filter pads, spare light units, pumps & pretty much any other Juwel accessory you can think of. Not the only we brand we stock as Aqua one have a great range of aquariums and accessories too. Spare parts can usually be ordered if we don't stock them.

Did you know that Corydoras like to spawn in cooler water?
Although they are a tropical fish most Corydoras like to breed in slightly cooler water. Usually making a partial water change with water of a slightly lower temperature than that of the tank will enduce egg laying. Corydoras also use a T position for mating .

Plants
Quality potted and bunched plants always in stock from the favourite elodea densa to the more unusual. Lots of easy to grow species and some more demanding plants stocked too. We keep Planted bogwood when it is available. Moss balls are usually on sale too.
Bunched plants are - £2.75 or 4 for £10. Potted plants are - £4.25 or 3 for £11.25.

Guide to buying fish at Maidstone Aquatics
To make sure you purchase the right fish for your aquarium we have colour coded all of our fish. You will see that the price labels on our fishes will have a colour.
· Green, Community fish that can all live together in the same environment.
· Yellow, Semi Community fish, some can be fin nippers, may grow very large or be boisterous towards other fishes.
· Red, aggressive fish that should only be kept with fishes of a similar nature.

Did you know that male goldfish have breeding spots?
During the breeding season males develop breeding spots on their gills called tubercles. Males can be observed chasing females around for mating. females are usually more rotund than males.
Fantail's
Fancy goldfish make great pets as they are relatively easy to care for. Peaceful and mostly hardy making them an ideal starter fish. They come in many varieties such as Orandas, Pearlscales & Telescopes. Please bare in mind that they can grow up to 6"- 8" so a suitable size aquarium is recommended. We always carry a great selection. Fantails love to eat lots of bloodworm and we have plenty of frozen or live for you to buy. Sinking pellets are another firm favourite and they help to eliminate swimbladder infections.
Goldfish & Shubunkins
Goldfish & Shubunkins are always available in a variety of sizes. Great for aquariums & ponds alike. They are super hardy and make great starter fish. Goldfish aren't fussy eaters and love flakes, bloodworms & pellets. They can grow up to 12"-15" so making sure you have a suitable home for them is essential. It is a common misconception that Goldfish will only grow as big as their environment. We stock everything needed to keep your Goldfish happy & healthy.
Minnows
White Cloud Mountain Minnows, are a great choice for the Coldwater aquarium. They are a small shoaling fish which can display great colours. They are very calm and docile making them ideal for a mixed species tank. Gold White Cloud Mountain Minnows are a popular colour variant. Being omnivorous they like to feed on a variety of foods like flakes & bloodworm.
